Bedroom redecoration time!

Just for the record. I'm kinda treating the site like a personal diary again with this entry!

You know how you can spend years living somewhere and making a mess of the place but not really noticing because it all happens one little bit at a time. Then one day you're sat contemplating the universe, probably mildly drunk, and think "hey, this room looks like shit."

I'm going to give myself the "name and shame" treatment - here's how it looked when I was looking around!

The walls are begging to be sorted out. The paint by the bed has kinda smudged. I guess the summer time might have something to do with that. Sweltering heat + body + wall = paint stripper! XD I can't explain the grubbiness :o I think wallpaper would work better against the first problem though.

The ceiling tiles... a few of them fell off when the roof leaked, and they're damaged in places. Don't try to stick them back up with superglue - it eats straight through the polystyriene(sp)!

I'm sure the carpet didn't come with the black blotches when it was bought - that had more to do with being a 6 year old with a fascination for blue tack. Either way, it's some horrible shade of yellow and seen its best... time for replacement?

It could do with new furniture too. The pink painted wardrobe (yuk) has kinda lost its paint job over the years, that should get replaced. The 'temporary' makeshift desk made out of a garage tool cabinet, bedside cabinet and plank of wood could probably do with being replaced with something made for the purpose too, as the three elements are not fixed and one of these days there's gonna be a disaster...

Oh yeah, and the red shelf is going. It's an excuse to hoarde more junk and looks unsuitable for the yellows and blues I want in this room eventually!

So.... I've spent a few weeks gradually selling some junk on ebay (to help fund the redecoration and it's better than chucking it straight out), throwing out the true junk (college work I don't need any more and am never going to review, old magazines which I don't have a continuous series of etc) and boxing bits and pieces up.

This weekend I decided to take Friday and Monday off. Friday was spent boozing! So was Saturday! Sunday was spent recovering (and a little work). Monday I took advantage of a free house to box my 'to keep' stuff up and move it into the junk storage area (ahem... the conservatory) strictly as a temporary measure, throw out the last of the stuff I don't want any more and 100% clear the room. Save for furniture (all but the bed are destined to go out once it's viable) and essentials such as TV, alarm clock, laptop... The PS2 is on standby in another room ready for bringing through because I'm bound to want to use it!

Here's the progress so far:

Next steps:
Remove roof tiles
Use polyfilla and sandpaper on the holes and bumps on the walls and ceiling as appropriate
Clean the walls and ceiling with sugar soap
Wallpaper the room
Re-tile the ceiling (I need another pack of 20, didn't buy enough...)
Move totally-everything out
Pull the carpet out and the broken-up foam stuff underneath it (going to be messy)
Lay a new carpet
Re-hang the curtains as some of the hooks are broken (heck, probably buy new curtains)
Run the TV and network cables through some conduit, find an RJ45 socket for the network so it's a bit neater
Get a new wardrobe (I like the look of the ones that are a wooden frame with a sort of canvas around it... cheap and effective)
Get a new desk-unit-thingy, preferably with a few drawers
Try to put everything back neatly!

I have a feeling it's going to take a while!
